 As we embark on our journey to move Dominica to the Next Level, we must focus on our MSMEs which are the foundation of our economy. It is with this vision in mind that the Business Gateway in collaboration with other Micro, Small, & Medium Sized government and donor funding support agencies endeavours to become the cornerstone for economic development of the Dominican Society. This Government is committed to the further development of the business culture of our country and will therefore empower entrepreneurs at all levels of development to take advantage of opportunities that exist in the market.

The Business Gateway is a private sector development programme funded by the European Union (EU) under its Special Framework of Assistance (SFA) 2004, and the Government of Dominica. It is being implemented by DEXIA in collaboration with the following partners’ WHITCO Development Institute, Dominica Bureau of Standards, and the Dominica Hucksters Association.
The Programme is being executed via three main platforms namely; Productivity Enhancement and Competitiveness, Management and Entrepreneurial Development, and Market Access, in an effort to stimulate growth in exports. The Programme provides business mentoring, and also focuses on developing strategies to enhance the competitiveness of its clients.
The Programme started in January 2008 and ends in December 2010. It is being implemented through a Programme Management Unit made up of five (5) staff members, housed at DEXIA. Fifty-one (51) businesses from the manufacturing, services and agri-business sectors make up the Programme’s clientele, and are categorised as either a start-up or an existing business. Technical assistance is also given to business support organisations.
It is envisaged that through the Programme’s activities, there will be an improvement in the private sector’s ability to take advantage of market opportunities that present themselves.
